On Nov. 21, state Sen. Vincent Hughes and The Fund for the School District of Philadelphia hosted an event at Live! Casino Hotel in Philadelphia to celebrate SAG-AFTRA National Board member Sheryl Lee Ralph’s Emmy win for her portrayal of a Philadelphia public school teacher in ABC’s hit show Abbott Elementary. All proceeds from the evening benefited The Fund and its Read to Succeed early literacy program. SAG-AFTRA Philadelphia Local President Nicole Izanec gave remarks to show the Local’s appreciation for all that Sheryl Lee Ralph does for unionism, her activism, and the light that her work shines both locally and nationally on educational journeys and challenges.
