On Nov. 6, 2024, SAG-AFTRA New England partnered with the Roxbury International Film Festival and the Secret Society of Black Creatives Actors Forum members, along with SAG-AFTRA members David J. Curtis, Liz Eng, Naheem Garcia and Andrea Lyman for an actors prep workshop. The event, held at Hibernian Hall in Roxbury, Massachusetts, was electric and energizing, featuring lots of vocal techniques, tongue twisters, physical warmups and improvisational games! Members of the public as well as local SAG-AFTRA New England members were invited. Actors broke out in smiles and sweat participating in exercises to prepare for auditions, callbacks and filming.

Lead instructor Naheem Garcia discussed the performer’s four instruments — voice, body, imagination and text — and how actors use these tools to create believable performances. At the end of the session, Garcia led participants in a closing circle where they shared their mutual interests in more learning, networking and collaboration.
