The SAG-AFTRA President’s Task Force on Education, Outreach & Engagement hosted Spotlight on Production: Insider Tips from Industry Pros on Oct. 13. The livestream looked at production re-opening safely in Georgia as we are seeing production increase globally amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The webinar featured local members and renowned industry professionals, including Atlanta Local Board member Ric Rietz, Tyler Perry Studios casting director Rhavynn Drummer, and casting directors Mark Fincannon (The Blind Side) and George Pierre (Creed). SAG-AFTRA Atlanta Local President Clayton Landey moderated.
Throughout the livestream, panelists gave insights about Georgia’s production boom and shared thoughts on how social distancing practices are affecting production. Fincannon and Pierre also discussed how early adoption of self-taping and virtual auditions prior to COVID-19 prepared them for current challenges.
“Taping is becoming more important than ever,” said Fincannon. “There are newer challenges, but [that’s] how I am getting really authentic, honest performances.”
While panelists agreed that actors based within the state may be considered more readily than those traveling from elsewhere, Drummer added that this should not discourage others from submitting auditions.
“There are still acting classes that are doing virtual showcases, which allow us to scout and still find talent. If you can find a program that does [something similar], that could be a great opportunity for you to be seen,” said Drummer.
As production begins to open around the country, be on the lookout for future livestream PTEOE events on returning to work safely.
