Dear Member,

SAG-AFTRA has always supported fair pay for music creators, including our SAG-AFTRA recording artists and singers, but the status quo isn’t working for them. That can change with your help.

Just this week, Congressman Nadler and Congresswoman Blackburn, along with dozens of recording artists, musicians and vocalists gathered at the SAG-AFTRA New York office to announce the Fair Play Fair Pay Act of 2015. The Fair Play Fair Pay Act will better the lives of everyone who creates music – and everyone who loves it.

We need to take the next step and make sure Congress passes the Fair Play Fair Pay Act. Take a moment to ask them to stand up for artists by supporting this legislation today.

Write your Representatives now and tell them to support the Fair Play Fair Pay Act.

The bill closes the AM/FM performance rights loophole, makes all radio services pay a fair market rate for all music (including pre-72 music), and streamlines payments to music producers.

During the announcement, our partners in musicFIRST were joined by music legends including SAG-AFTRA members Elvis Costello, Cyndi Lauper, Ray Parker, Jr., Martha Reeves, Gloria Gaynor, Ronnie Spector, Marshall Crenshaw, Tift Merritt, Duke Fakir, SAG-AFTRA Vice President, Recording Artists Dan Navarro, SAG-AFTRA New York President Mike Hodge and many others.

SAG-AFTRA member Rosanne Cash summed up the situation when she said she wasn’t doing this for herself. She was fighting for the Fair Play Fair Pay Act for the backup singers and session musicians who are unknown to most fans.  She talked about needing to pass the Fair Play Fair Pay Act for future musicians because “…if they can get paid, they can continue to create music. I don't want that generation to disappear because they can't pay rent."
