SAG-AFTRA speaks to the continued importance of labor communications between workers and employers.

SAG-AFTRA was a participant of the 2024 PRWeek Crisis Conference in Washington, D.C., on April 18. Representing the union was SAG-AFTRA Chief Communications & Marketing Officer Pamela Greenwalt, who was a panelist at A Playbook For Fixing Labor Strife alongside Boston University professor and former General Electric Vice President Gary Sheffer and UPS President, Global Network Communications and Reputation Management Malcolm Berkley. Moderating the panel was PRWeek Vice President, Editorial Steve Barrett.

The panel, which focused on labor communications strategies and worker engagement, spotlighted the 2023 strike actions of SAG-AFTRA and the United Auto Workers unions and the ongoing work of Starbucks Workers United. Greenwalt discussed the union's work during the TV/Theatrical/Streaming strike, including how the efforts of the negotiating committee, chief negotiator, member leaders, staff, strike captains and fellow union allies contributed to its national and global impact.

Other topics covered included the evolution of labor communications post-pandemic and the importance of maintaining internal communications between executives and their employees.

The Crisis Comms Conference, now in its second year, is a key information and networking event that focuses on the nuances of crisis management across a variety of industries. The conference is hosted by PRWeek, a noted trade magazine and news website for the communications industry.
