SAG-AFTRA Twin Cities Local members braved the year’s first snowstorm to take advantage of a Conservatory workshop, Vocal Variables for Broadcasters and Performers, on Nov. 20. Over a dozen local members gathered at St. Paul Neighborhood Network for a workshop taught by Twin Cities vocal coach Mira Kehoe.

Members learned about and practiced several vocal warmup exercises, including the Titze Straw Technique, which is designed to help expand vocal folds. There was also a 10-minute general voice warmup, and a five-minute tone and resonance warmup.

Kehoe also shared resources with the attendees to further help in keeping their voices primed for the work that we all love to do.

Delta Rae Giordano, a local actor-voiceover performer in attendance, commented, “I’ve taken workshops with Mira Kehoe before. She’s a wonderful resource for actors and singers in our community. She gave us some good exercises and information on using especially helpful tools and reminders about the importance of keeping our voices in shape.”

Fellow attendee, actor and seasoned voiceover artist Catherine “Cat” Campion shared, “Even after two decades as a [voiceover] actor and now coach, the Vocal Variables workshop gave me greater insight into how the voice works and how to protect it, as well as a few tips and exercises to share with my students!”

Following the workshop, some members gathered next door at Lake Monster Brewing to catch up and make new connections.

Keep an eye out for future member opportunities like this!
