On April 11, in partnership with the Massachusetts Production Coalition (MPC), the SAG-AFTRA New England Local presented a panel conversation titled The Working Actor. Local members Anthony Hoang, Kris Sidberry, Kiara Pichardo and Michael Malvesti detailed their personal experiences in the New England film and television scene. Performers, industry allies and production professionals across the region came to the Dorothy and Charles Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown, Massachusetts, to enjoy a vibrant reception and to listen to the voices of talented actors in the business.

Panelists offered their inspirational stories of taking the first steps in their career, landing their first gigs and getting up after being knocked down. They offered advice on how to approach the industry, extra tips for nailing auditions and how to solidify your brand. The key line of the night was that hard work and persistence, with a kind and patient attitude, is crucial in such a talented industry.

SAG-AFTRA New England Local member Andrew Justin Smith moderated the panel and managed questions from the audience. The result was an interactive and fruitful discussion on the experiences of working actors in Massachusetts, what’s changing in the industry, and the business practices of being an actor.
