The audition process, just like the job, needs to be safe, respectful and reasonable, and these conditions ensure that that [it] is.

The new SAG-AFTRA 2022 Commercials Contracts provide important gains and protections to union actors who work in commercials. To provide members with more information about many of the new provisions within the contracts, the SAG-AFTRA President’s Task Force on Education, Outreach & Engagement has launched the Commercials 101 livestream series.
The series kicked off on June 7 with Commercials 101: Auditions and Casting, hosted by SAG-AFTRA Executive Vice President Ben Whitehair with Director, Commercials Contracts Claudette Singh. Singh’s presentation gave an overview of new details regarding current commercial auditioning and casting practices.
Attendees learned about the new classification system for the different types of auditions — in-person, live remote (or live virtual) and self-taped — and what information casting directors are to provide within casting notices and during auditions. In the Q&A that followed, Singh answered questions concerning intimate scenes and nudity, safety and how members can resolve issues that happen in the moment.
“[Members] should immediately reach out to the union, and we will reach out to the signatory and address the issue with them,” said Singh.
