Getting Your Emotional Tools Ready for Episodic Season

Oct 02, 2018 - 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM PDT

Where:

When: 6 – 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2

Where: SAG-AFTRA Plaza
Frank Maxwell Room - Lobby Level

Los Angeles, CA 90036
Parking will be validated.

Today’s film and TV business requires working actors to exhibit real behavior, and real emotions, in front of the cameras. Take any show with strong emotional content, like This Is Us. No one wants to see an actor “faking” being sad or angry. We want to see the real thing. And so, in order to even be in the game, especially now when so many TV episodes are being cast, actors must have the tools to generate those real emotions and behaviors, at will, as many times as required, in auditions and on the set.

In this workshop, The Method Studio founder Aylam Orian will review the emotional preparation tools developed by the founding ‘parents’ of modern acting: Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler and Sanford Meisner. Through video clips and exercises, you will get a first-hand experience of some of these tools, which you could then use in your next audition and on the set.

Subjects covered will include:

  • Lee Strasberg’s Sense Memory
  • Stella Adler’s Imagination work
  • Meisner’s “As If”
  • Relaxation before emotional work
  • How to use these tools in auditions and on the set

About Aylam Orian:
Aylam Orian is an actor and acting teacher who specializes in the Stanislavsky-based acting techniques: Strasberg (“Method”), Adler and Meisner. He has guest-starred and co-starred on numerous TV shows such as Shooter, Code Black, NCIS: Los Angeles, The Guest Book, 30 Rock and America's Most Wanted, and can currently be seen in the series regular role of Dr. Wilhelm Brücke, the Nazi villain of Stargate Origins. From 2000 to 2009 Aylam served as the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute’s archivist, where he had the privilege of researching and preserving Lee Strasberg’s vast collections of materials on acting and his “Method.” Since 2007 Aylam has taught at several prominent acting schools in New York and Los Angeles (The Lee Strasberg Institute, UCLA Extension, to name a few) before founding The Method Studio in LA.
