The SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles Local Board met virtually on Dec. 11, 2023. L.A. Local strike captains were invited to attend as observers.

In addition to approving Los Angeles National Board member replacements, members of the L.A. Local Executive Committee and 28 L.A. Local Committee chairs were appointed. The next step will be for the committee chairs to review submissions of interest and make their recommendations for committee members. Officer’s Report 
Los Angeles Local President Jodi Long welcomed new board members, observers and staff. 

President Long provided brief insights on the strike, sharing the “incredibly emotional” journey from the initial wages and working conditions meetings, through negotiations and then the strike itself. She shared that it was a “life-changing experience” and thanked all those who supported it, emphasizing that it was only successful because of the astounding solidarity among our members and staff. 

First Vice President Sheryl Lee Ralph shared that community and labor leaders had reached out to thank SAG-AFTRA for “showing our strength, paving the way for the success of future union actions and setting a much-needed example of the power of solidarity.”

Second Vice President David Jolliffe provided an overview of upcoming TV Animation Contracts negotiations and preparations for Commercials Contracts negotiations, which will begin in 2024. He expressed appreciation to all the strike captains for their commitment and support.

Executive Director’s Report 
Los Angeles Executive Director Serena Kung reported on local operations and initiatives, which included a brief presentation regarding the structure and timeline of L.A. Local committees. She also introduced the local staff and encouraged members to check out the L.A. Local pages on the SAG-AFTRA website, and contact the local office for support, resources and questions via la@sagaftra.org.

News & Broadcasting Update 
SAG-AFTRA National Director, News & Broadcast Amy Hall presented the types of broadcasting contracts that may be brought to the L.A. Local Board for consideration during the term and provided an update on contract negotiations in the works, specifically for iHeart Radio.
