Actors will meet to work on scenes and audition materials to hone their skills and prepare for future auditions.  Please bring your material to work on.

This event will be held in person.

Look for a street called “Channel St.” coming off Ala Moana Blvd. 

Turn “Makai” on Channel and then take the FIRST RIGHT after the parking lot. 

It’s easy to miss this right turn so look for a sign that says “HOMER A. MAXEY.” 

Drive past the sign and follow the road until it ends.  

Park and enter the glass doors.  We’re upstairs.

NextGen Game Night

The place to be on the 3rd Tuesday of the Month is NextGen Game Night at the KRC! Games begin at 6 p.m., and we keep going until the last person drops (or 9 p.m.!)

Please bring a friend or family member, grab a snack to share, and come to game night!  Guaranteed fun and community.

Young Performer Informational Meetings for Parents

In an effort to resurrect the Young Performers Committee, we will be holding 2 brainstorming/informational meetings on Monday, May 13th at 1:00 pm and Monday, May 20th at 3:00 pm.  Parents need to only attend one or the other.  

The goal for these meetings is to create an agenda for the upcoming year for educational seminars and events for parents and Young Performers.  If you are unable to attend, but have ideas, and/or want to be included in future meetings, please contact Kathy.Byrne@sagaftra.org.

Join us for Actors Evening with Lee Garlington - "The Casting Landscape Post Covid!”

An opportunity to discuss with Suzanne Goddard Smythe, Sandi Logan, and Seth Yanklewitz details and insights about casting and booking theatrical jobs in the current hybrid world we live in.

Sandi Logan has been a Casting Director for almost 30 years, working on television pilots and series, reality shows, short films which have toured the festivals, and is currently working on a feature.  She was nominated for an Emmy for Best Casting of a Comedy Series for “Monk.” She was the in-house Casting Director for the Falcon Theatre (now the Garry Marshall Theatre) for many years, casting over 20 projects, including the LA workshop of “Pretty Woman” prior to its move to Broadway.  She spent 8 years of her career as the Vice President of Casting at both ABC Network and ABC Studios.  Sandi received her Bachelor’s degree in Theatre (with an emphasis in Directing) from UC San Diego and has taught and lectured at various drama schools around the country.

Suzanne Goddard-Smythe is a casting director most recently known for RAVEN’S HOME (Daytime Emmy nominated), THAT GIRL LAY LAY, SCHOOL OF ROCK (two- time Artios winner), Netflix’s NO GOOD NICK, DETROIT: Become Human, HEATHER’S: The Musical (L.A. and Off Broadway), SYFY’s Warehouse 13, among many others television series and films. Suzanne is currently working with Quantic Dream on STAR WARS ECLIPSE.

Seth Yanklewitz is known for casting The Hangover (2009), New Girl (2011) and Billy the Kid (2022). Nominated for 1 Primetime Emmy. 3 wins & 5 nominations total. 

Parking: Limited street parking is available. Members are welcome to park at the Los Angeles Film School parking lot on Ivar Ave and Sunset Blvd. However, please note parking costs $15 due to the duration of the class.

This masterclass is intended to accommodate Advanced Level actors. Please assess your own abilities accordingly when considering registering for this workshop.

Join this fun, one-day workshop to develop usable techniques you can apply to your auditions and performances, to always know you are bringing the height of your talent to each and every opportunity, consistently. -- And learn it from a working actor who has proven these techniques across the globe in TV, Film, theater, VO and more.

Directions:
The first twenty registrants will be assigned sides to work. Those registrants will be expected to come prepared with their assigned sides. 

A staff member will reach out to you after you have registered. 

The following registrants will be allowed to attend as observers. Please note this is a large class and not everyone will have the opportunity to be selected to work.

Join the SAG-AFTRA LA Conservatory for a Stand-Up Comedy Workshop.

Understand how multi-camera acting directly correlates to stand-up comedy. Learn how to set-up a joke, and land a punch-line. Learn how to be open and honest and harness those skills to make you a better, more confident actor. 

Take your life experiences, the subject of a “killer” stand-up set! This workshop will go over stand-up comedy basic rules including setup, premise and stage etiquette, and selected individuals will have the opportunity to test out freshly minted material before the end of the workshop. Taught by Cool Beans Comedy producer and coach Corey Martin Craig, with more than 10+ years of stand-up comedy instruction.

Audition Critique with Heather Whitty, May 15 - afternoon session

Audition Critique with Heather Whitty gives members an opportunity to receive one-on-one audition feedback from a seasoned casting director and acting coach.

 Heather Whitty of Whitty Studios will review your headshot and resume. She will give you tips on what to highlight and what to edit. She’ll also have you read a prepared monologue and your audition will be taped and she will give you immediate feedback. Each session lasts 15 minutes and members walk away with honest and constructive advice.

 Slots will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Those who register will be notified via email of the time slot assigned. Due to space limitations, we ask that you arrive no more or less than 15 minutes before your assigned time slot.

 You will receive your specific time slot within the afternoon window by May 13.  Please do not show up without a confirmation.

You must bring the following:

  • A copy of your headshot and resume.
  • A prepared monologue 
  • Something for taking notes.

One Tape, Two Ways: Adapting Audition Styles for Stage and Screen!

Looking to refine your audition skills for both stage AND screen? Join us for a special workshop designed to fine-tune your auditions and translate performances more specifically for theatre and film. From blocking and delivery to framing and physicality, we will discuss what makes a tape sink or swim in each medium to put you in the running for the gig!

Led by Kaitlin Shaw (PR Casting), this presentation promises to provide helpful tips and techniques to help adjust your performance with style and medium at top of mind. During this workshop, Kaitlin will share her expertise and perspective from her many sessions behind the camera (for both theatre as well as tv/film) and provide personalized feedback to willing participants.  (Please note: performers who are interested in receiving direct feedback and live coaching from our presenter during this presentation should indicate so when registering -  please email Jess.Jones@sagaftra.org after registering to indicate interest in workshopping material live during this presentation. )
 

About our presenter:
Kaitlin Shaw joined Paskal Rudnicke Casting in 2021 after relocating to Chicago from New York City where she worked for Tara Rubin Casting for 11+ years. There, Kaitlin worked on the Broadway productions of The Phantom of the Opera, King Kong, Falsettos, Prince of Broadway, Aladdin, Les Miserables, Bullets Over Broadway, Big Fish, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Promises, Promises, as well as several National Tours, Off-Broadway and Regional Productions. Since joining PR she has worked on television series such as Shining Girls, 61st Street, The Bear, Emperor of Ocean Park, and South Side and films such as Perpetrator and Ghostlight as well as dozens of commercials and industrials. She also cast the Chicago theatrical productions of Personality, The Lloyd Price Musical, Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas, Bachelor: The Unauthorized Musical Parody, Love Actually?: The Unauthorized Musical Parody, and Winnie the Pooh: The New Musical Stage Adaptation. 

Kaitlin won a 2016 CSA Artios award and was nominated in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Kaitlin hails from Southern California and studied Dramatic Art and American Studies at University of California, Davis. She lives in Lakeview with her husband and daughter.
