King County’s Creative Economy Director Kate Becker and Harbor Island Studios Facility Manager Nate Brend provided a terrific tour for Seattle Local members of the Harbor Island Studios.

The Seattle Local partnered with King County Creative to offer this SAG-AFTRA member-centered tour on April 12, before the studio’s summer renovations. Some 20 members gathered in a conference room to hear about the facility’s past projects and successes as well as the plans for upcoming renovations. Becker and Brend then provided a comprehensive tour of the facility, with an opportunity to ask questions. Members learned a great deal about the county’s investment in local industry growth.

At the end of the 90-minute tour, SAG-AFTRA Seattle Local Executive Director Davis Powell and Seattle Local Board member Maggie Stenson ( gave comments about the Local Board and highlighted the many ways members could get involved and contribute to the strength and impact of our union.

Harbor Island Studios, owned by King County, Washington, is a film production facility unveiled in 2021. The studio is King County’s first major public investment to bring back a once-thriving film industry and hundreds of well-paying, creative economy jobs.
