King County union members, leaders and allies gathered on Friday evening, May 10, for the annual Labor Oscars. The event took place at the union-built and -operated Seattle Convention Center Summit, which opened in 2023. In all, more than 100 people received nominations in eleven categories, with the MLK Labor Board serving as the "Academy" by casting the deciding votes. The announcements of the nominees and the winners prompted vigorous applause in recognition of their service to the local labor movement.

The Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance took home the Ally of the Year award, with Virginia Mason SEIU Healthcare Local 1199NW claiming the Best Organizing Campaign honor.

SAG-AFTRA and the WGA received a joint nomination for Best Strike. That award ultimately went to Macy's UFCW 3000.

SAG-AFTRA Seattle Local President Deborah Horne, a longtime KIRO-TV reporter, served as emcee for the ceremony. Fellow board members Rik Deskin, Steve Reeder, Rachel Glass, Shobhit Agarwal and Ry Armstrong also attended, along with Seattle Executive Director Davis Powell.

While the event was an excellent way for the local union community to socialize, it was also an important showcase for recognizing those who have dedicated themselves to improving the lives of working people throughout King County.
