SAG-AFTRA members and staff participated in a panel at the first annual Minority Independent Producers Summit on June 26 at the Tribeca Cinemas. The three-day summit offered a chance for producers to network and to learn about the challenges and opportunities for bringing diverse stories to the screen. The SAG-AFTRA panel encouraged producers to work with the union to secure the best available talent and outlined various ways in which union contracts can favor the employment of diverse performers. Present were: Stephanie Perry, director of theatrical contracts; Reinaldo Marcus Green, SAG-AFTRA member and independent producer/director; Adam Moore, national director EEO & Diversity; Rashaad Ernesto Green, SAG-AFTRA member and independent writer/director/producer; Connor Mooney, new media specialist; and Michael Sladek, SAGIndie, N.Y. Representative.
