SAG-AFTRA members share their thoughts on the importance of active participation in the union.
Belonging to SAG-AFTRA is such an honor and you have to be so proud of it. [The union] is a reflection of a group of people who are dedicated artists who know what they’re doing. It’s a symbol of excellence to belong to SAG-AFTRA.

Being a part of a union can empower workers on the job and enable them to create their own equitable workspaces. For many SAG-AFTRA members, being a part of the union has brought significant, positive changes to their work as professional artists.
On April 4, an all-star group of members — SAG-AFTRA National Organizing Committee member Ellen Crawford; SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles Local Organizing Committee member and KCRW disc jockey Jason Kramer; SAG-AFTRA Dallas-Fort Worth Local Board member Suzanne Burkhead; voiceover artist and SAG-AFTRA National Spanish Language Media Committee Chair Hernán de Béky; and singer and L.A. Local Singers Committee member Amy Keys — joined SAG-AFTRA Executive Vice President Ben Whitehair for the SAG-AFTRA President’s Task Force on Education, Outreach & Engagement panel, Union Organizing & the Union Difference.
During the hourlong panel, the group held an in-depth discussion about the importance of union organizing. Interwoven with key topics, such as the nuances of organizing and ways to address anti-union sentiment from employers, were organizing success stories and advice on how newly joined and longtime members can further their union participation locally and nationally.
