You’re holding a powerful piece of equipment in your hand! Use your smartphone for creating content and self-taped auditions.
We can get really easily dismayed when we shoot something and it doesn't look good [because] we all hold ourselves to really high standards [as] performers. … But push past that point of resistance and say, ‘No, I'm going to keep practicing and keep going.’

The SAG-AFTRA President’s Task Force on Education, Outreach & Engagement hosted Smartphone Studio on Jan. 12. Leading the workshop was member Aubrey Mozino, president of the film collective We Make Movies and the vice chair of the Los Angeles Local NextGen Performers Committee.
Mozino, who was previously a speaker at the NGP Café: NextGen Content Creation livestream on Oct. 7, discussed the ease and benefits of using a smartphone to record self-taped auditions and online content. During her presentation, which included live demonstrations, she also recommended equipment and apps to use.
“What I love about mobile filmmaking is that it allows you to start telling your stories and making video content in a way that is low risk,” said Mozino. “You can experiment cheaply, quickly and often, which means that you can get better and you can shoot more content quicker, faster and easier. Then, you can graduate to the more expensive gear.”
