Commercial work continues to be a viable means of professional success and industry experience, with over $1 billion generated for commercial actors under the SAG-AFTRA Television Commercials Contract and Audio Commercials Contract, collectively known as the SAG-AFTRA Commercials Contracts. The union is preparing to meet with the Joint Policy Committee, the negotiating body for audio and television advertising, upon the Commercials Contracts’ expiration on March 31, 2025. These negotiations are not only a key opportunity to discuss vital contract elements, but to also re-examine members’ needs in an evolving digital landscape.
Joining SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland are actor and SAG-AFTRA Commercials Performer Committee Chair Katie Von Till (Young Sheldon) and National Director, Commercials and Corporate/Educational & Non-Broadcast Tracy Hyman to break down the basics of commercial negotiations. They cover the different types of performers and work covered under the contracts; important provisions, including residuals, audition practices and exclusivity rights; and what to expect at the table when it comes to important topics such as artificial intelligence.
