On Sept. 17, 2023, Arizona-Utah Local members rallied in support of our strike against the AMPTP with sister unions from across Arizona at UA Local 469 in Phoenix. With approximately 100 attendees, the rally included speakers and members from AEA Phoenix/Tucson, AFM Local 586, IATSE Local 336, Maricopa Area Labor Federation and the Arizona AFL-CIO. They all shared messages of support and solidarity with the SAG-AFTRA Arizona-Utah Local. SAG-AFTRA members led the event, with Saylor Billings as emcee, Jennifer Pfalzgraff providing sing-alongs and Sandy Kim leading chants. Local President Amanda Melby kicked off the event with an empowering speech. SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher showed up for us in a video with a personalized message for our Local members. Supporting speeches from Local leadership and members shared stories that provided context for attendees. Members received SAG-AFTRA T-shirts and ice-cold water in green packaging. The strike rally brought together our members and sister unions for a powerful time of solidarity and a unique union networking event where new alliances were formed.
